US model, Agatha Relota, teams up with world-renowned fashion illustrator Thierry Perez to launch new media brand: Carla and Leo. It kicks off with the super-slick book Carla and Leo’s World Of Dance published by Thames & Hudson.

Dancing has never been such fun.
Whether on stage or on ice, the popularity of television shows like Dancing On Ice, Strictly Come Dancing, So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars can mean only one thing: there’s never been a better time to get up and dance.

Carla and Leo’s World of Dance is an imaginative and vivid introduction to ballroom dancing for young people aged 8 to 12. This very special book educates and entertains the next generation of ballroom dancers, following Carla and Leo, the two star characters who are set to be huge.

Behind the concept is 29-year-old fashion model Agatha Relota, represented by Storm Models in London. In 2006, Relota—a keen dancer since taking up ballet at the age of four—was asked by her nieces if she could teach them to dance. She discovered that all the books and guides at the time were very simplistic and didn’t capture the spirit or the history of dance. Inspired by her curious nieces wanting to know more, Carla and Leo was born. Carla and Leo are two active ten-year-olds who find out more about dance in a fun, educational and aspirational way, using visuals along their journey to engage young readers.

With her background in fashion, Relota wanted Carla and Leo to feature children that were cool, fashionable and hip. Teaming up with world-famous fashion illustrator, Thierry Perez (whose work includes drawings for Jean-Paul Gaultier, sculptures for Azzedine Alaia and a series of drawings of the Versace Villa in Miami), Relota’s aim from the outset was to create a pop art feel that did not have the hallmark naivety that plagues so many dance books aimed at children.

Having enjoyed a stellar career in fashion, shooting editorials for the likes of ‘Vogue’, ‘W Magazine’ and ‘L’Officiel’, as well as working with world-class photographers including Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein, Juergen Teller, David LaChapelle and Scavullo, Relota is poised to write the next chapter in her life.

As a savvy businesswoman with ambitions to develop the Carla and Leo brand into one that is both multimedia and international, it is time to learn about the World Of Dance.

Carla and Leo are ten-year-old best friends who chance one day upon a magical dance school. The dance instructor—the elegant Miss Paulina—invites them on a fascinating journey to Austria, the United States, the Caribbean, Argentina, and Brazil, where they learn about the dances and cultures of each.

The most popular dances are all illustrated and explained, from the classic waltz to the foxtrot and swing, from meringue, mambo, cha-cha, and rumba to salsa, samba, and tango.

The success of television shows like Dancing with the Stars and a boom in dance schools worldwide attest to the popularity of ballroom dancing. This book will delight all ballroom mini-divas and their parents.
