Bringing Dance to The Classroom

We’re so excited to be donating a portion of book sale proceeds to Dancing Classrooms.

If you don’t already know about this organization, you should! What they do is bring ballroom dance instruction into schools. Kids get to move and have some fun while, at the same time, learn social skills like etiquette and self-confidence. You would not believe the transformation ballroom dance brings to these young performers.

It all started in 1994 when the wonderfully talented and illustrious Pierre Dulaine volunteered to teach a class at just one school in New York. Yes, it started with just that one school and Pierre Dulaine’s one simple (and amazing) step. Now look at all the other beautiful steps these kids are taking, across the dance floor!

Based in New York, Dancing Classrooms continues to expand each year. In the 2009-2010 school year, they got 50,000 students in 525 U.S. schools dancing. They’ve even expanded internationally.

This has gotten Carla and Leo thinking – they’d like Dancing Classrooms to come to their school, too!
